Summary
Matthew 28:16-20
Today is Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost. Our text is the Great Commission. Jesus’ closing words remind us, as His followers, of God’s commission and promise. We should know these words well. They are familiar words used in countless services through the sacrament of baptism. Why? Because they come from the authority of Jesus, who calls us to go, be baptized, and teach in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This requires each of us to be disciples ourselves, able to baptize others into the way of life that reflects the Trinity. Thus, we first need to learn what it means to be in communion with the Three-in-one, so we can teach others to obey Jesus’ commands.
